It was in the years leading up to the 1900s when Fullerton saw the first of the settlements in the area. There are only a few remaining buildings from the earliest years (before 1890), and the majority of these buildings are not of any particular architectural style. While they are attractive buildings, they are also very simple in design and style. It was in the years following the 1890s when the amount of settlements increased and the buildings became more "stylish".

In the early 1900s (1900 to 1917), two new architecture styles appeared in Fullerton, CA. Frequently used in public structures, the Mission Revival style was also occasionally used for private residences. This style was said to celebrate the past of California while using elements from the Missions. The Craftsman bungalow was another popular style at this time. This type of housing remained attractive while also remaining economical. The interiors were very functional, and residents had lower heating costs in these buildings.
